Oil pollution of river Po by far not threatened the Adriatic

State Secretary for the Sea, Capt. Mario Babic received information today from the ambassador of the Italian Republic in Zagreb, Alessandro Pignatti Morano di Custoza that the oil pollution of the river Po is under control and that so far no danger of spilling into the Adriatic Sea.

Italian efforts of the acting intervention service unit has stopped most of the pollution at Piacenza in the Isola Serafini and Rovigo, and more barriers are placed before the entrance of the Po river into the Adriatic sea.

Given to the current situation, the Italian side expressed the belief that the possibility that is excluded that the oil pollution get trough to the Adriatic Sea, as announced the Italian side to the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.

According to the informations obtained from the Italian Center for Search and Rescue at Sea, from the refineries near Monza in the river Lambro poured around 1,000 tonnes of oil which have been spread into the river Po.

Last night the State Headquarters has met  to implement interventions for sudden sea pollution and to take all preventive actions to protect the Adriatic sea, the Headquarter also sent order the the HQ's at the county level to put in readiness  measures for professional services and technical resources to prevent and protect the river Po flow-line.
