Minister lays wreath to commemorate victims of 2009 Rudine train crash

The Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure BOZIDAR KALMETA, his associates and CEOs of the Croatian Rail (HZ) company, on Saturday laid wreaths by the railway track near Rudine, 20 kilometres northwest of Split, to mark the second anniversary of a train crash in which six people were killed and 55 injured.

It was the most tragic accident in the company's 20-year-long history. So far, HZ has payed a total of HRK 6.5 million in damages to to the families of those killed. HZ is expected to pay another HRK 425,000 in the neat future.

The accident happened on 24 July 2009 when a tilting train travelling from Zagreb to Split fell off the tracks, hitting twice against a wall on one side of the tracks before coming to a halt. Killed in the derailment were Domagoj Alvir, Emil Gaj Andric, Lorraine Bodet, Petra Radic, Mira Mirna Rogan and Kresimir Trajbar. A total of 50 people sustained serious or light injuries.
