Minister Kalmeta Meets Austrian Minister for Economic Affairs and Labor Bartenstein

Božidar Kalmeta, Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, met today with the Austrian Minister for Economic Affairs and Labor, Dr. Martin Bartenstein.

Minister Bartenstein emphasized that according to the amount of foreign investments in Croatia, Austria was the leading country with EUR 2.5 billion, and that 700 000 Austrians were spending their holidays in Croatia.
Minister Kalmeta said that currently 20 hotels, partly owned by the Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska – RH), were awaiting the process of privatization, and that investments in continental tourism were also possible.

He also reminded everybody of the successful cooperation between the RH and the Austrian construction company ‘Strabag’ regarding the public-private partnership in the construction of the motorway Zagreb – Macelj as part of the Pan-European  corridor Xa. He added that the mentioned section would be finished even before the planned target date (April, 2007), leaving the unfinished part from Maribor to the Croatian border.

Minister Bartenstein congratulated Minister Kalmeta on all the efforts Croatia was putting into the expeditious construction of motorways, underlining that the Republic of Austria, in meetings with the Slovenian side, was supporting the swift construction of the abovementioned road corridor through Slovenia.
