Prime Minister JADRANKA KOSOR formally put into operation a water storage facility at Stara Baska on the northern Adriatic island of Krk on Monday.

The project, worth 12.5 million kuna, was described as an important step in the development of the island of Krk and the town of Stara Baska, and in the promotion of tourism. The government plans to provide another 76 million kuna to complete the water supply system there by 2012.

Kosor said that over the past six years the government had allocated over nine billion kuna for various projects on the islands, including 1.5 billion last year alone. She said that the government would continue to encourage all vital infrastructure projects to improve living conditions on the islands.
