Investments in road construction in 2011 planned at HRK 3.05 billion

Investments in new and existing highways in Croatia in 2011 are estimated to amount to HRK 3.05 billion, which is 23 percent more than in 2010, HUKA, the association of companies operating highways and collecting road toll, said earlier this week.

Investments in new highway sections are expected to amount to HRK 2.58 billion, which is 20.4 percent more than in 2010.

Investments in the already built highway sections are expected to amount to HRK 467.9 million, which is 39.5 percent more than in 2010.

In 2010, investments in new highway sections totalled HRK 2.14 billion, which is much less than in 2009, when such investments amounted to HRK 4.96 billion.

Last year's investments in the already built highways totalled HRK 335.4 million, bringing overall investments in highways in 2010 to HRK 2.48 billion.

Most investments in new highway sections were made by Hrvatske Autoceste (HAC), HRK 1.07 billion. Autocesta Rijeka-Zagreb (ARZ), which operates the Rijeka-Zagreb highway, invested HRK 110.1 million, Bina Istra invested HRK 975 million, while Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj (AZM) did not invest in new highway sections since the Zagreb-Macelj highway was built in one go.

As for investments in existing highways, HAC invested HRK 290.6 million, ARZ invested HRK 6.2 million, Bina Istra HRK 15.3 million, and AZM 23.1 million.

Road toll revenues, not including VAT, totalled HRK 1.98 billion as against 1.99 billion the year before.

HAC collected HRK 1.23 billion in road toll, ARZ collected HRK 447.2 million, Bina Istra HRK 135 million, and AZM 166.9 million.
