International Conference on the Protection of the Adriatic Sea

The hotel Sveti Križ on the Island of Čiovo near Trogir hosted today the International conference on the protection of the Adriatic Sea from sudden pollution in the organization of the Regional Centre for Assistance and Disaster Relief (RCADR) from Divulje.

The conference, held under the aegis of the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development seeks to coordinate the activities of all Adriatic countries by stimulating their interest for a more successful protection of the sea.

The participants of the conference, assistants of six ministers, representatives of port authorities and state administration as well as experts and scientist hold discussions on the international legislative and navigation security as well as all the dangers coming from ballast waters.

It was also announced that very soon, Opatija would host a minister conference for all countries that have direct access to the Adriatic Sea and that would be an occasion to additionally analyze the proposal for declaring the Adriatic as a protected area. 

According to Tomislav Miletić, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, that initiative would finally enclose the whole Mediterranean helping to implement a more strict security regime for the navigation of vessels including double paneling for tankers.

The conference was organized in cooperation with the international project 'Safe Sea' within the initiative of DAMAK.
