HAKOM: Investments in mobile telecommunications networks up 13%

Telecommunications operators in Croatia continued investing in their mobile networks in 2018, their investments increasing by nearly 13 percent from the previous year, the HAKOM regulator for network industries said earlier this week.

Last year's reduction of the fee for the use of the radio frequency spectrum, which operators pay annually into the state budget, was channelled into investment in access radio frequency networks and increasing the number of base stations, HAKOM said.

The last quarter of 2018 saw a decline in revenues and the number of mobile network users from the previous quarter owing to the lack of a seasonal effect. Despite the expected quarterly decrease, growth was recorded on the annual level.

At the end of 2018, there were 1.12 million fixed broadband Internet connections, an increase of 2.5% from 1.09 million in 2017. The number of high-speed broadband connections also rose year on year, accounting for 29% of the total number of fixed broadband connections.

The pay TV programme distribution market increased by about 4% from 2017 to more than 820,000 users.
