Government to invite bids for Zagreb Airport concession on Friday

Airport Zagreb - computer-animated photo of the 'New passanger terminal'The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure will publish a tender for the first stage of selection of concessionaires for Zagreb Airport on Friday, the government decided at its meeting on Thursday.

The government instructed the Ministry to initiate the procedure for granting a concession for the construction and management of a new passenger terminal and for the management of the airport.

Minister BOZIDAR KALMETA said that the project would be carried out in two stages and that a tender for the first stage would be announced on Friday. He added that qualified bidders would enter the second stage.

Kalmeta said that many companies, including large European airports, had shown an interest in a concession for Zagreb Airport.

The investment project is initially estimated at 192 million euros and its value is expected to go up for a further 29 million after the number of passengers reaches five million annually.

The Ministry was also instructed to propose a model according to which Zagreb Airport employees would be offered a 10% stake in the airport's equity. The government currently owns a 55% stake, the City of Zagreb holds 35%, while the City of Velika Gorica and Zagreb County each own 5% of the shares.
