Good Results in Sea and Coastal Transport

The Croatian sea and coastal shipping registered during this year’s first six months the transport of 4.32 million passengers (plus by 8.5% over 2005), and the transport of 15.09 million tons of goods (plus by 7.8 % over 2005), based on the report published by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

An increase was also achieved during the second trimester. During that period numbers show the transport of 2.97 million passengers (plus by 11.7% over 2005), and the transport of 7.59 million tons of goods (plus by 7.8% over 2005).

Most of the passenger transport occurred during the first six months of this year, 4.25 million of them were counted in inland transport between domestic ports. This is an increase of 8.4% as compared to the same period in the year before. The international passenger transport counted an increase of 14.5%, i.e. 71 000 passengers. Ferries carried 68% of the total number of passengers, i.e. 2.92 million.

Most of the goods transport, 13.91 million tons or 92%, was taking place in-between foreign ports. That kind of transport was being handled by domestic carriers, whereby the loading and unloading is organized in foreign ports.

The sea ports also registered an increase in passenger transport during the first six months. The number of passengers in those ports amounted up to 8.41 million (plus by 6.9% over 2005). At the same time the sea ports registered a 3.2% decrease in goods shipment.

The river transport counted during the first six months in 2006, 188 000 tons of goods (plus by 4.4% over 2005). In the same period the shipment of goods in river ports amounted up to 808 000 tons which is an increase by 24.1% compared to the same period in 2005.
