Gašper Gaćina, Head of the Council of the Croatian Telecommunication Agency stated today that the third Croatian mobile operator, Tele2, had fulfilled most of the conditions listed in the concession agreement. With their signal they were covering 20% of the market, i.e. of the Croatian population and they had started their marketing campaign, meaning that they would begin with their commercial activities. That is how Gaćina explained the Agency's point of view related to Tele2 and regarding the results of a recent inspection of that company.

Gaćina explained that Tele2 had asked for an additional statement concerning the Agency's inspection. That statement was given to them towards the end of the previous week, concluding that Tele2 had fulfilled the conditions in the concession agreement.

But, according to Gaćina, the Agency was still dissatisfied with Tele2’s pace of building the network so that the Agency would insist on a complete fulfillment of everything that Tele2 had promised in their offer for the concession of the 2nd generation mobile telephony, which represents a part of the concession agreement.

He added that all of that would be discussed on the Council’s next week meeting, underlining that it was very important to urge Tele2 to publish their price list. At the moment of receiving their concession Tele2 had promised a prize cut back up to 50%.

Tele2 did not want to give any comment, but the unofficial information was that they had started with their marketing campaign one week ago and that they would offer their services to the market, shortly.

Related to the possible launch of a tender for the 4th mobile (GSM) operator, Gaćina explained today how the Agency would not try to prevent the arrival of the 4th operator, and that the tender would be organized in case there was enough interest for it. But, he added that this was not only a matter of the Council and the Agency, it was also depending on the existing market relations. (Hina)
