Dubrovnik 'Atlantska Plovidba' Celebrating 50 Years

The Shipping Company 'Atlantska Plovidba' marked today its 50th anniversary at the Marin Držić Theatre, in Dubrovnik.

The President of the Management board, Ante Jerković, spoke off the glorious maritime past of Dubrovnik He also mentioned the year 1955 when the first vessel, the steamboat ‘Sveti Vlaho’, was delivered to ‘Atlantska Plovidba’.

During the following 50 years the company was constantly growing, reaching this year its peak with a fleet counting 21 vessels (780 000 deadweight tons), Jerković concluded. He announced that the company was building ten new vessels with a total of 480 000 deadweight tons, with plans to also acquire two second-hand vessels.

Besides the shipping industry, ‘Atlantska Plovidba’ is also involved in the hotel industry, owning the Hilton Imperial, the Lapad and the Grand Hotel on Lopud. Starting with 2005 they also purchased the airline company ‘Dubrovnik Airline’.

The ceremony was attended by the State Secretaries Branko Bačić and Vladimir Vranković, the Deputy County Prefect of the Dubrovnik – Neretva County Željko Kulišić and the Mayor of Dubrovnik Dubravka Šuica, accompanied by all other guests.

At the ceremony, the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, the City of Dubrovnik, the 'Slobodna Dalmacija' journalist Marjan Žuvić, the Saint Mary's Convent in Dubrovnik and the DVD Bank from Rotterdam received the award 'Calm Sea'. (Hina)
