The implementation of digital tachographs in all new vehicles registered in the EU has become obligatory with 1 May, but seven member countries have still not fulfilled their duties, reported the Agence Europe.

According to the IRU, digital tachographs are not being used in Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Malta.

Those countries are behind in the organization of the technical and administrative infrastructure for the handing out of digital tachograph smart cards, claims the IRU.

The EC could initiate a criminal proceeding against those countries, and the drivers of such vehicles (without digital tachographs) could easily face penalties.
