Croatian airports see 17.9% increase in number of passengers in Jan-Aug
The nine Croatian airports recorded 6.8 million passengers in the first eight months of 2017, which is 17.9% more than in the same period of 2016, figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show.
The increase in the number of passengers is due to an 8.3% increase in the number of flight operations, which reached 83,200 in the January-August period. Of that number, 18,300 flight operations were recorded in August alone, which is 8.6% more than in August 2016.
The volume of cargo handled by the airports rose by 4.9% to 5,600 tonnes in the first eight months of 2017, and August saw an increase of 63.4% to 1,028 tonnes.
A total of 1.68 million passengers were recorded in August 2017 alone, an increase of 18.5% over the same month last year. Most of the passengers, namely 590,800, used Split Airport, a rise of 22.3% over August 2016. It was followed by Dubrovnik Airport (438,200 passengers, +16.8%), Zagreb Airport (346,800 passenger, +13.4%) and Pula Airport (137,700, +23.1%).
