Croatia has requested information from Italy about a possible outpouring of oil pollution of the river Po into the Adriatic Sea

Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure has requested today the information from the Italian authorities about the outpouring of oil pollution in the river Po, and possible threats to the Adriatic Sea.

The Ministry has requested this information for possible activation of sub-regional Plan for Accidental Marine Pollution, which is ussual in such cases, in the cooperation between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

According to the informations supplied by the Italian Center for Search and Rescue at Sea, with its headquarters in Rome, the oil is poured from the rafinery into a river Lambro and the contamination of the river Po has spread, and the assessment of the Italian authorities, if it would not be stopped, it could to get to the Adriatic Sea for 70 hours.

The State Headquarters to Implement Interventions for Sudden Pollution of the sea will meet today at 18am in order to discuss further treatment of the Croatian authorities and take all preventive actions in a timely manner to protect the Adriatic Sea from possible contamination.

This Plan sets down the procedures and measures for prediction, prevention, restriction, and readiness to respond to sudden sea pollution and the extraordinary natural events in the sea to protect the marine environment.
