Croatia: Coastal Navigation Permits Increased by 1.5%

The total number of permits for coastal navigation in Croatian sea waters, approved during 2005, mounted up to 54 290 which is a 1.5% increase as compared to the year 2004. Those vessels carried a total of 297 600 persons, according to official data.

A smaller number of those vessels (23.5%) reached Croatia by sea, 62.2% were transported via land and 15.8% had remained in the country during wintertime.

Most permits were handed out to vessels from Germany (32.1%), followed by Italy (27%), Austria (14%) and Slovenia (8.7%).

According to the length of the ships, the vessels which received a permit were mostly up to six meters long (52.5%), 16% were between 6 and 8 meters long, 10.5% were between 8 and 10 meters long, 10.6% were between 10 and 12 meters long and 7.3% were over 12 meters long.

Regarding citizenship, the vessels were mostly carrying Germans (24.4%), Italians (24.1%), Austrians (15.1%) and Slovenians (14.9%).

Nautical tourists stayed on the boats mostly (98.6%) during the period between April and September.

Most permits for sojourning in ports, along berths or in marinas were handed out to vessels from Italy (23.5%), Germany (21.1%) and Austria (21%).
