This year's Croatia Boat Show was opened on the Western Wharf in Split on Wednesday, featuring about 50 boats, organisers said, adding that more boats would be exhibited during the fair which will close on May 25.

Tourism Minister Advisor Ivo Basic opened the event, saying it was difficult to organise the 16th edition of the show in times of economic crisis.

Croatia Boat Show director Vicenco Blagaic underlined that Split Mayor Ivo Baldasar helped organised the show, expressing hope that the recession would stop and boat trading pick up again.

The best year for the show was 2008 when 500 exhibitors displayed 470 sail boats, motor boats and luxury yachts.
