On November 6 Croatia Airlines introduces EU security standards limiting the quantity of liquids that may be carried by passengers, the Croatian airline company reported on Friday.

The new security standards refer exclusively to hand luggage and will apply to all Croatia Airlines flights starting in EU countries and all flights of air carriers registered in the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland. The new security standards will also apply to Croatia Airlines passengers traveling from Croatia to EU countries or transferring to other flights at EU airports.

The new standards refer to hand luggage which may contain different liquids distributed in several bottles, tubes or sprays.

The size of a bottle, spray or tube may not exceed 100 milliliters and all such containers must fit in a transparent plastic bag with a zipper or a transparent toilet bag with the volume of up to one liter.

Allowed are all kinds of liquid, gel and cream (drinks, soups, syrups, creams, oils and lotions, toothpaste, hair gel, shaving foam, perfumes, sprays, mascara, liquid powder, soft cheeses, yogurt, peanut butter, etc).

The new security standards do not cover liquids that are necessary during flight and are used for medical purposes. This refers to baby food and food for people suffering from allergies, but not to cleaning liquid for contact lenses or anti-cough syrup.

Specially packed liquids must be declared at a security check prior to boarding the plane.

The new regulations do not refer to goods bought in duty-free shops by passengers traveling aboard direct flights or goods bought in duty-free shops at EU airports, provided they are bought after passport control, packed in sealed bags and declared along with a receipt showing that they were bought on the same day, i.e. during travel.

Croatia Airlines said that the adjustment of national security regulations to European regulations was under way and that the new security standards will soon apply to all Croatia Airlines flights.
