A contract on the building of a bulk cargo terminal in the southern Croatian seaport of Ploce was signed on Thursday, envisaging construction to begin in 20 days and last 26 months.

The contract was signed by Luka Port Authority director Tomislav Batur and Manuel Nicolas Pineiro, representative of a Consortium comprising the Spanish company Construcciones Y Estudios and Josko Mikulic, representative of the Croatian company Vijadukt.

The contract is worth HRK 406 million and the new terminal will make Ploce a major bulk cargo terminal in this part of the Mediterranean.

The terminal's annual capacity will be 4.6 million tonnes and it will be able to receive ships of up to 180,000 tonnes in deadweight.

The investment will make the Adriatic port more competitive and eco-friendlier.
