The HŽ Infrastruktura rail company and the Projektgradnja Plus company on Tuesday signed a HRK 25.6 million contract for the restoration of the railway station in the eastern city of Osijek.

The work is expected to start in two months and be completed in 24 months. The railway station will be restored to its original external design and the energy efficiency of the building will be improved.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, who said that this was "a good step forward" following the restoration of the railway station in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka.

Speaking of other projects in Osijek-Baranja County, Butković said that the construction of the Croatian section of international road corridor 5c, worth HRK 470 million, was "going even better than expected". "We should reach the Hungarian border by the end of 2023 and, hopefully, Hungary will complete its part as well," he added.

HŽ Infrastruktura CEO Ivan Kršić said that the company was also rebuilding the train station in Laslovo, a project worth HRK 16 million, and upgrading the railway line between Vinkovci and Vukovar, worth HRK 540 million.

Kršić also mentioned a project co-financed by the World Bank under which nine level crossings were being upgraded. He said that a tender would be issued soon for the modernisation of another 11 level crossings.
