Coast Guard carries our rescue operation near Mljet
Members of the Croatian Coast Guard are engaged in the humanitarian rescue operation in the Ecological and Fisheries Protection Zone (ZERP), south of the Mljet island, the Croatian Defence Ministry said on its website on Sunday.
Following an emergency 112 call, the Croatian Air Force PC-P aircraft was sent scout the area and established that a motor sailboat sailing under an unknown flag required assistance. The Coast Guard boat "Hrvatska Kostajnica" was then sent to the area.
The crew called 112 and asked for assistance, saying that there were 65 men from Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia and Egypt aboard the ship. They also reported that two people's condition was serious, the defence ministry said.
