The "Serine" cargo ship, transporting wood and soda water got stranded at 0207 hours Tuesday near the northern Adriatic island of Unije, the State Emergency Centre 112 reported, adding that nobody was injured and the sea was not polluted.

There was also 120 tonnes of oil in the ship's fuel tanks, but preventive dams have been set up.

The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure issued a statement confirming that none of the crew of the 82-metre long ship was injured and that there was no sea pollution.

The ship was sailing from the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka to Algeria, under the flag of Sierra Leone. The ship is owned by the "Anomyo Maritime Losa" shipping company.
