Due to the contamination of shells in the Bay of Šibenik, causing already a three months prohibition of fishing and selling, the County of Šibenik – Knin and the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development will finance a new, additional, testing of the sea and the shells in the area of the Krk River Delta and the St. Anthony Channel.

According to the Office of the Šibenik – Knin County Prefect, Duje Stančić, the ballast waters in the Šibenik Harbor, will also be tested. Samples will be taken on Monday, 21 November.

This is one of the results of yesterday's session attended by officials of the county government, the Mari culture Guild of the CCE, the inspection authorities, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Croatian Veterinary Institute, the Institute of Oceanography in Split and the Šibenik Harbor Authorities.

In order to implement EU rules on shell breeding sites and delivery centers in the county, the HASAP system will have to be adopted, i.e. the hygienic-sanitary measures which have to be fulfilled in the production, breeding and shipment of shells.

The announcement suggests that it is necessary to build a center for the cleaning of the shells in the Šibenik area, which should be regulated through the amendments to the County Area Plan, defining new areas for the breeding of shells. (Hina)
