Today at Osijek, a meeting was organized for Slavonian construction companies (specialized in civil engineering), as potential future contractors for the building of the Croatian route of the international 5C Corridor (Budapest – Osijek – Sarajevo – Ploče).

The meeting was organized due to the initiatives of the President of the Croatian Parliament, Vladimir Šeks and the Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Božidar Kalmeta.

Explaining the reasons for organizing this meeting, Šeks stated that the goal was to try to create a consortium of Slavonian civil engineering companies for applying to the 5C Corridor civil engineering public tender.

'It is important to find ways to unite the construction forces in civil engineering, in order to secure the realization of the largest part of the upcoming construction activities. The Project is of great importance, for it will integrate this part of the country with the rest of Croatia, the neighboring countries and Europe. This Project has also great economic value for this area’, explained Šeks.

He added that the scenario defining the integration and functioning of the consortium should be produced by the Osijek County Chamber.

Talking about the public tender application rules, Šeks emphasized that all interested companies, next to a financial guarantee from the bank, should have relevant proof that they performed similar work during the past three years. They should have proof they were continuously solvent during the past three years and they should be able to show that they possess the necessary technical equipment.

Regarding the timeframe for conducting the construction activities, Šeks reminded that the motorway route Sredanci – Đakovo, 25 km long and HRK 650 million expensive, should be finished by summer 2007. The route Đakovo – Osijek, 30 km long and HRK 850 million expensive, should be finished by the end of 2008.

The president of the Osijek County Chamber, Zoran Kovačević, said that according to judgments the total amount of money necessary for the 5 C Corridor would surmount the first predictions and might easily reach the amount of HRK 3 billion. (Hina)
